If you want to tell a story about a Clown being King, do NOT make that ENTIRE premise hinge on a single character and then treat him as a plot device! In general I feel that The Crowned Clown was successful in effectively telling its shocking story, and that it did so in a gorgeous, impactful way. I was relieved that he survived the rebellion, and presumably will serve the new king for years to come.
