Closed captions are like a fashion accessory — if done well, they will blend in effortlessly and compliment the final product,  but if done poorly, they will drag down the whole outfit. We are proud to still use only human transcribers, captioners and editors for every job we do. In our 16 years of experience with closed captioning, we’re yet to see accurate automated timing or speech recognition generated text. In fact, even if the initial text is created with speech recognition and then edited by an experienced editor — as is done by several closed captioning services, it takes a lot more time to get it to the level of broadcast quality than to just do it right the first time by using a human transcriber. Edit 1: The captioner will edit their own file. Edit 2: An experienced editor goes through the file minutely and makes any fixes required. Edit 3: An senior editor will glance through the file and if they spot even one error, the file is sent back to the editor for another revision.
